High Heels In The Workplace

As Podiatrists we understand that high heels are an essential part of women’s lives. High heeled shoes are not entirely the main problem when it comes to developing problematic sore feet but often create more issues when they are combined with a pointed toe.

Discomfort from high heeled shoes occurs due to increased force placed through your forefoot which can result in more friction and pressure through this area of your foot. This causes painful hard skin (calluses) or corns to develop.

The extra pressure created by a pointed toe shoe will increase the chances of:

  • Morton’s neuroma
  • Blisters
  • Corns and calluses
  • Hammer toes
  • Claw toes
  • Bunion deformities
  • 2nd metatarsal stress syndrome

Not every person wearing high heeled shoes will develop problematic feet however if you do experience foot or calf pain it is essential to give your feet a rest. This would be a good time to come and see us to deal with the problem quickly before any secondary problems develop.
